The 13 criteria that restaurants will have to adhere to in order to reopen for dine-in service during the novel coronavirus pandemic include a stipulation they “create a daily log of customers and maintain that daily log for 30 days, including telephone/email contact information, and time in.”

Whether you’re the person doing the reporting or the person being reported on…when your personal information ends up in a government database, it never goes away and can fall into the hands of the wrong people.

“That invades our privacy. I want to go to the restaurant to enjoy the food. I don’t go there for someone to know where I’ve been, what time.”

If there’s “no controls, and no protections and no oversight, and a bunch of people opt in, and then the data get used for commercial and non-pandemic related purposes, then it doesn’t matter that it’s (optional),” he said.

Personal services, such as salons and barber shops, must perform health checks before appointments and must maintain a customer log.

New Orleans is requiring that businesses keep customer logs as a condition of being able to reopen. Not only is it difficult for most businesses to comply, this mandate also violates constitutional privacy.
