People United for Privacy congratulates Senator Mike Braun and Representative Tom Rice for their important and common-sense “Simplify, Don’t Amplify the IRS Act” that will protect citizen privacy and free speech. The Act codifies regulatory changes that protect nonprofits from political targeting and their supporters from harassment and intimidation. It also increases the penalty for government employees who purposefully leak private information and makes it easier to fire them – so future Lois Lerners will face justice.
