People United for Privacy Foundation (PUFPF) is proud to announce that former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum has joined the Board of Directors. Senator Santorum will play a key role in strengthening PUFPF’s outreach efforts and enhancing the organization’s visibility among key stakeholders in the states and in Washington, D.C.

Senator Santorum represented Pennsylvania for two terms in the U.S. Senate from 1995 to 2007. He earned a reputation as a fierce critic of government overreach and stalwart defender of conservative causes. Prior to his Senate tenure, Senator Santorum also served two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was later a candidate for the Republican nomination for President in 2012 and 2016.

Senator Santorum is a New York Times best-selling author and Senior Political Analyst at Newsmax. He holds an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and a law degree from Penn State Dickinson Law. Senator Santorum and his wife Karen are the parents of 8 children – Elizabeth, John, Daniel, Sarah Maria, Peter, Patrick, Bella, and Gabriel (deceased) – and 10 grandchildren.

“Senator Santorum adds tremendous expertise, experience, and credibility to People United for Privacy Foundation. We are thrilled to have his guidance and support as we fight to defend all Americans from the rising threats of doxing and political violence,” said Heather Lauer, the Foundation’s CEO.

“At a time when Americans are waking up to threats to their liberty, I am excited to join an organization that is standing strong for privacy and free speech. Exercising our First Amendment right to privately support a cause is a uniquely American tradition that holds government accountable,” said Senator Santorum.

In a July op-ed in The Hill, Senator Santorum wrote about the urgency of implementing privacy reforms to protect civic engagement and public servants in an increasingly polarized and interconnected world.

“I have dealt with my share of violent threats in my career, but I was a U.S. senator and presidential candidate, and sadly that has been the norm for some time. But threats and acts of politically motivated violence are now affecting all levels of public officials, nonprofit leaders and even ordinary Americans who attend rallies or speak out on public issues,” he wrote.
